“I would like to say thank you to all our customers in the Forest who have taken their time to support us. People are usually quick to complain, so it is great that people have taken the time to share the love.”

Mark Bolton - Saturday 25 April 2009

Miners Arms, Gloucestershire

A former CAMRA Cider Pub of the Year, the Miners Arms is named after the Forest of Dean's "free miners" - forest dwellers who had the right to exploit the local coal-seams. This really is the country pub with everything: it has the river Lyd running past the front garden and a steam railway at the bottom of the child-friendly garden. There's a proper skittle alley as well as quoits and boules; a full menu served all day (except Tuesday); and five real ales on tap. But for cider fans the Miners is all about its collection of 22 real ciders. On handpump there are Thatcher's Traditional and Heritage and Mole's Black Rat, a fantastically sweet, cloudy scrumpy. Also available are Weston's cloudy Old Rosie and Country perry. The rest, in bottles, come from local makers including the Cadogan family from nearby Awre.

Mrs Baggus Hits 99ys Young!!

Mrs B celebrated her 99th and 100th Birthdays at the Miners. She thanks all the team for their support and loved her framed pictures that we took, framed and gave her on the nights from us all.

We are planning next years celebrations and will have male strippers, zimmer frame racing and wheelchair gladiator pugil stick battles as well as fireworks. We hope to get Mrs B back on the drum kit again (don't ask - you had to be there).

Special mention in despatches for 'Don' Coleen who supports, rows and looks after Mrs B tirelessly. Thanks Coleen you are a good egg,

Staff Awards

To show their appreciation for all their hard work Karen and Mario took the team out for a staff jolly! Bowling and food, a few beverages and a good time was had by all! Awards were given out to the team. Special thanx to Karen for driving the mini bus and to Niecy, James and Will for covering at the pub while Mario and family were on holiday.!!

Miners of the Month

Knuckles!

Knuckles can be found in his comfy seat in the regulars bar every Sunday. He runs our thrift club and is a player in our league winning 'Exiles' quoits team. He will never see this as he still listens to music on a gramaphone and doesn't like new singers like Max Bygraves, let alone have a PC. He runs the quiz every other Monday and plays the bones after one or two bottles of Bulmers!
